At FHS Athletics, we are committed to providing a positive and respectful environment for all athletes, coaches, officials, and parents. Our mission is to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. We expect parents to adhere to the following code of conduct to ensure a safe and supportive experience for everyone involved.
1. Respect for All Individuals:
Treat athletes, coaches, officials, and other parents with respect and courtesy. Remember that your behaviour reflects upon our school and community. Avoid any disrespectful, derogatory, or offensive language or actions.
2. Positive Support:
Encourage and support your child’s participation in athletics. Focus on their effort, improvement, and enjoyment of the game, rather than solely on winning or individual achievements. Cheer and show appreciation for good sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome.
3. Model Sportsmanship:
Exhibit good sportsmanship at all times. Display self-control and composure, even in challenging situations. Be a positive role model by demonstrating fair play, integrity, and ethical behaviour.
4. Communication:
Maintain open and respectful communication with coaches and athletes. Address concerns privately and constructively, and allow coaches the space to make decisions for the team. Avoid confrontations during games or practices.
5. Safety First:
Prioritize the safety and well-being of all athletes. Follow guidelines set by coaches and athletic staff regarding health, equipment, and participation. Report any safety concerns promptly.
6. Cooperation and Teamwork:
Support the team’s goals and unity. Encourage your child to value teamwork, cooperation, and collaboration with teammates. Avoid any actions that may undermine team spirit or harmony.
7. Respect for Facilities and Rules:
Respect the facilities, equipment, and rules of the game. Encourage your child to follow guidelines and regulations set by coaches, officials, and event organizers.
8. Involvement and Volunteerism:
Consider contributing your time and skills to the athletic program through volunteering or other means of support. Your involvement helps create a stronger community and enhances the overall experience for athletes.
9. Conflict Resolution:
To resolve conflicts effectively, follow proper communication channels. Start with the coach, then the athletic director if needed. Maintain open dialogue and a constructive approach for successful resolution.
10. Personal Growth and Development:
Understand that participation in athletics is a valuable opportunity for personal growth and development for your child. Encourage them to learn from successes and failures, and to embrace the challenges that come with sports.
By adhering to this FHS Athletics Parent Code of Conduct, you contribute to fostering a positive and enjoyable experience for all athletes, coaches, and parents. Your support is vital to the success of our athletic program and the well-being of our student-athletes. Thank you for your commitment to these principles.
Failure to agree to this code of conduct will result in your child not participating in any sports at Fredericton High School.
